Intermittently unable to run scripts from a plan

Twice last week and several times this morning, SilkTest (5.5.3) has been unable to run a testplan. As I've been working on building my scripts for the application we're developing, I normally run from the .t script file, working on one testcase at a time. Only occasionally do I step back and run anything from the master plan level.

Anyway, last week for the first time in the 2 months or so of the job, I opened the master plan, and hit the green arrow button to "Run the script, suite, or testplan in the active window", and -- nothing. No action at all. I opened the "miniplans" one by one, and nothing there, either. I can run a complete script of however-many testcases from the .t file, that has never failed.

Today, it seems to be sometimes working, sometimes not. I've looked all over for options or settings, and I'm not changing anything. Maybe 8 or 10 times today I've gone back to see if it's working, and on three occasions it has fired up and started running testcases, the rest of the time it's dead as a dodo.

What can possibly be going on behind the scenes? SilkTest is not a flaky program. There has to be something I've just not learned about yet, that I really need to, I guess.

Always learning the hard way ...

I've done that a number of times today, with no luck.

It's working right now... why, why, why?????

Been there; done that. There's a bug in SP3 that affects the Silk compiler. You can drop back to SP1 where it still works. The problem is supposedly fixed in the next release - presumably that's 6.0 in October since I've been told there won't be a SP4.

    woo --

That would account for not having any problem with it before. I did the SP 3 just 3 weeks ago. I suppose I could go find the original CD that came with the purchase. Can it go back?

I've never had a problem rolling back. Do an uninstall of the new version, then install the old version. Unless you go into the filesystem and delete files, you will even be able to keep your old settings.

    Thanks.

I'm about at the point of recommending that to the boss.

Keep in mind that if you normally copy the SilkTest_Java.jar file over to your app, you'll need to copy the one that comes with SP1 or you'll probably still have problems.

umm .. I don't have any idea of that. Copy a jar file to my app?

so I guess that's not related to what I've been seeing, huh?

In any case it ran fine every time yesterday.

Re: Intermittently unable to run scripts from a plan

I have just started having this happen on two of my machines. I am running silktest 5.5 SP2 on both.

Silktest seems to be acting as if it doesn't recognise that there are any testcases in my plan at all - if I do Run All it does nothing, if I ask it to compile the plan it does nothing.
But if I double-click on the diamond by a testcase, it correctly opens up the script file.

    Any further ideas?

P.S. Have closed and restarted silk. Have rebooted my machine. Have uninstalled and reinstalled silk. Still the same thing happening.
