    Testing Multiple Instances

How do i test multiple instances of the same application with diffrent scripts in SilkTest? If this feature is not available in silk test, is there any other product which has this ? Any answers/suggestions will be appreciated.

If you point record - window declarations to the main windows of the app instances, do you see subscript notation? Like tag "$c:\path\myapp.exe[1]", tag "$c:\path\myapp.exe[2]"? If so, you can tag them uniquely.

    Re: Testing Multiple Instances

I do this all of the time -- with up to six instances of the same application running simultaneously under the control of a single script. It requires some expert-level trickiness for SilkTest to be able to recognize which instance is which, however. One way is to move each instance to a special location on the screen and use location tags to recognize them. Another way is the use the application's own functionality to get a unique main window caption for each instance.

One thing that you cannot do -- is have each instance simultaneously under the control of different scripts. To be controlled by SilkTest an application must almost always have focus. The Windows OS can only give focus to one application at a time. Under unix you can run multiple shells with each giving focus to an application, so this is not a limitation.
