Beginner Que:Frame file for pop up

    Hi,

I've been trying to record a frame file for a pop-up window but have been receiving the following error message.

*** Error: Window 'Add User - Popup Title[1]' was not found

Can we not record a frame file for a pop up window?

Could some one please show me the pointers to overcome this problem ?

    Regards,
    -firstPerson

you do not have to create a frame file for intermittent dialog boxes. Try to capture them in include file.

Re: Beginner Que:Frame file for pop up

    Hello Sree,

    Thanks for your quick reply.
Could you please elaborate on your reply. Iam totally new at this and would appreciate if you could help me get started.

For example say, I have a GUI which is used to add users to an application. So, I'd first access the page using a URL - then, login to the page - and on that page click an icon for add users which would pop up a child window.

So, to have a single frame file for all these pages Iam following the below procedure.

    - Access the login page - Go to File->New->Test Frame

    - Repeat the above procedure for all the other pages

    - Combine all the above frame files into one.

Is there some other way this needs to be done ?

    Thanks.

Re: Beginner Que:Frame file for pop up

    Alright, let me explain...

Logon to the first page using the url ====== Go to File --> New --> Test Frame. (save the test frame say HTMLPage.inc)

On the login page click the icon for add users which pops up a child window ==== Go to Record --> Window Declaration ---> a dialog box pops up. Place the cursor over the title bar of the child window. Press Ctrl+Alt, Then either press Copy to Clipboard or Paste to editor. If you Copy to Clipboard then you will have to paste this in the HTMLPage.inc manually, whereas if you click Paste to Editor the declaration of this child window gets added to the HTMLPage.inc automatically. Either one should work.

Follow the same process for all the windows or pages that you need to declare.[/list]

Excuse the detail workflow and incorrect use of terminology if any, doing this without a copy of SilkTest

Check out the help for Window Declarations. Also let us know about the progress.

    Hope this helps

Re: Beginner Que:Frame file for pop up

Great help witchcrop...It worked that way...
    But, I've a question here..

Why cannot we create multiple frame files and for each of the windows/pages and concatenate them in the end into one single file. Is there any difference in doing it this way ?

Thanks again to you all for the help.

Re: Beginner Que:Frame file for pop up

Hmmn..Another question..On the child window that pops up when the "add user" icon is clicked there are multiple tabs present.

So, do I have to activate each tab and record the window declarations ?

Re: Beginner Que:Frame file for pop up

A Frame file is usually captured for the MainWin of any application. Just as a simple explanation if you look closely in the frame file, there are declarations in the beginning of the file for the defultbasestate, command line invoking of the application etc. Now we wouldn't have this for the child and subsequent dialogs would we. As a rule think of the Frame file as the first impression of the application as it is invoked.

Yes you will have to manually activate each tab and capture the declarations. Think of SilkTest as a virtual user, it will see what an user would have seen.
