    Multiple windows captions

I am testing an application whose caption gets changed during runtime i.e. caption is different of caption in DefaultBaseState. How to handle this?

    Re: Multiple windows captions

Replace the tag string with a function. In that function return the value of the caption.

Just be aware that the recorder won't execute the function when you use the recorder. On playback it works like a charm though

    Re: Multiple windows captions

Here's an example with Notepad since it's tag changes depending on whether a file is loaded or not.

    Re: Multiple windows captions

As a SilkTest Guru, I would do what has been suggested and use a tag that was a string variable. But there is a simple "quick fix" as well. That is to change the "tag" with one caption to a "multitag" that includes both captions.

You might also be able to use a single tag with some "*" wildcards to match both window captions.

See SilkTest help for more on "multitags".

    Re: Multiple windows captions

    Hi
I tried what mentioned by Rob but still my scripts are not working.

Initially caption of main window is MAIN. After login it gets changed to "MAIN - LOC". Still it is not able to find the window when caption gets changed.

    Re: Multiple windows captions

How are your tags defined now exactly?

I use single tags with wildcards for all my dynamic window captions & it works perfectly.

    Re: Multiple windows captions

Tags with wildcards work fine, example would be Microsoft-Outlook wherein the subject of the mail typed in appears as the caption of the mail window.

In your case tag "Main*" should ideally work.

Also it would be of help to know how exactly your tags are defined.

    Re: Multiple windows captions

    [ ] const wMainWindow = MAIN
    [ ]
    [-] window MainWin MAIN
    [ ] tag "[DialogBox]MAIN*"
[ ] // The working directory of the application when it is invoked
    [ ] const sDir = "i:\Prod\com"
    [ ]
[ ] // The command line used to invoke the application
    [ ] const sCmdLine = "C:\orant\BIN\ifrun60.EXE i:\Prod\com\bomlogin.fmx user1/pwd1@prd1"
    [ ]
[ ] // The first window to appear when the application is invoked
    [ ] // const wStartup = ?
    [ ]
[ ] // The list of windows the recovery system is to leave open
    [ ] // const lwLeaveOpen = {?}
    [ ]

This is an Oracle application and forms are in D2K. After login, the caption gets changed to "MAIN - LOC"
