    Install AUT with SilkTest..Help Please..

    Hi All,
    I have following problem.
    We have a test(Acceptance Test). This includes Installing the application and continue with the rest of the basic functional tests of AUT.

    During this installation process, SetUp will create 200 files in different locations with in the directory we mentioned as Destination Directory(for eg.,C:\ProductName\..). It also creates few files in C:\Windows,c:\Program Files\Common Files etc.,
    So when I tried automate using Installation using Silk Test, Setup was not able to create files in different location mentioned above as expected. I have kept "Start In" Directory for Silk Test as C:\ProductName and & C:\. But Nothing worked. Is it really good to automate Installation with Silk Test. If yes, is there any way for me to come out of the problem.
    Thankyou all,
    Murali

    Murali,

    Good idea to automate instalaltion to test it with Silk. Probably silk asks Os to do the job and moves to next statement in the script. U may have to insert sleep statements for the duration. Or u can create a bat file and execuet it with Silk and then another testcase u can verify installation.

    Whola!

    It is very usual to create installation tests using SilkTest. We do it all the time. We require to run installation tests on builds of the application and we find it very time saving.
    Generally the problem associated with the automated installation tests is Timing, try pitching in a Sleep (x).
    If that does not solve the problem let us know. It would also be helpfull to know what kind of application you are installing, and when SilkTest fails what is the exact error or message, or whether the SilkTest keeps running and setup generates an error.

    ... or use While loops with Exists()

    While !Window.Exists(5) && iTime < 100
    Sleep(5)
    iTime++

    Something like that...
