SilkTest hangs on various SYS commands when using Windows XP

We wrote an extensive test harness for our product in silktest 5.0.3.</p>

We recently upgraded to 5.5.3 and have noticed that our test harness fails on Windows XP when calling functions like SYS_GetEnv and SYS_FileExists. Basically, the SilkTest agent hangs and has to be killed before SilkTest returns to user control. Windows 2000 appears to function correctly.</p>

It only appears to happen with certain data test sets. These data test sets use the same test case. While the data for a given test moves the testcase through different paths, the paths that fail are common to all data test sets.</p>

I have walked through the test case in debug mode and used the View->Expression dialog to try the problem command before it fails. The agent hangs when I try it.</p>

    Any suggestions? Thanks!</p>

Re: SilkTest hangs on various SYS commands when using Windows XP

A little update. One problem we see with any system using 5.5.3 (but not 5.5 and earlier) is that SYS_SetEnv() no longer functions correctly.

Previously, SYS_SetEnv() set an environment variable and it stayed set until reset with SYS_SetEnv() again with the old values. In 5.5.3 this no longer appears to be the case. Nothing has changed on the system except for upgrading to silktest 5.5.3.

I also am hanging on the call to SYS_FileExists() on Windows 2000. I am using SilkTest 5.5.3.0. Does anyone know if this is a known bug?

You might consider comparing the build numbers of your various service packs - check the About box. I'm using SYS_FileExists() on build 1019 without any problems.

How do the access rights for these failing folders differ from those that work? Things like: write protection, 8.3 names, hidden file attributes, user login authorization?

Could these files be already in-use some where else?

Re: SilkTest hangs on various SYS commands when using Windows XP

Segue provided a patch to the 5.5.3 version of silk test that fixed the problem. I wrote a testcase that demostrated that SYS_SetEnv failed to set the environment variable (I was using PATH) on Win2K and WinXP. Segue provided a fix for this problem and the hang I experienced with some testcases running on WinXP went away.
