    Using SilkTest to automate emailing

Being new to Silk Test i have just been asked if it is possible to set up Silk Test so that it can be used to email a simple message to various people, by filling in "Dear sir/madam" with "Dear <persons name>" (persons name from file)? And then automatically sending this email reading email addresses from a file?

The easiest way is to have a script(ex erl) that does the emailing and call it from Silk.

Re: Using SilkTest to automate emailing

I have set up a function that (instead of a script) opens the new email window fills in the to data from a file and then sends it. To set it up I used an option file and declared the outlook windows for SilkTest to use.

We are working on changing this function so that SilkTest simply calls the windows api that controls sending email.

could you not execute a command-line function "mailto:<name>" similar to the tip John posted yesterday?

I think he wants to get away from using the Outlook GUI (eventually). I use VBScript for this.

Re: Using SilkTest to automate emailing

I have a command line e-mail utility that I execute via SilkTest. If you're interested, you can e-mail me and I'll send it to you along with a supporting SilkTest function.

You can use blat.exe shareware program and update any txt/bat files to customize messages. It's cool.

Let me know if you are not able to find it and I'll send it to you.

Don't overkill the design. Quick and dirty is good. The end result is what it matters.
