    GetText on masked field

I am testing a masked field. I need to get the text from field and verify that it is all asterisks. However, when I do a get text I do not get the asterisks but the underlying text. Is there any way around this since I need to verify that the actual values do not display.

Example: Enter ABC in field. Field displays ***. GetText returns ABC.

    Thanks,
    Wendy

    Re: GetText on masked field

This is a flaw in Windows' standard function, some ppl use this feature to get passwords. Did you try to use copy using the TypeKeys() and get the value using Clipboard.GetText()?

    Try that.

    Re: GetText on masked field

I was going to suggest copy, but I tried it manually in IE (logging into Yahoo). IE won't let you copy the contents of a password field. I would be interested to see if it works here...

Well, it depends how the field is coded I guess. He might be lucky

    Re: GetText on masked field

Looks like it won't let me copy a masked field.

    Hi!
I think one of the way is to use 'VerifyBitmap method'

    Re: GetText on masked field

I agree with Amit. User Bitmapping.
First, check the length of the string.
Create a string of "*" for the length.
Enter it and capture the bitmap.
Then, enter your valid string and capture
    the bitmap.
Compare them. If the same, you got the masked. If not, raise an error.

    Re: GetText on masked field

    U r Very correct Michael,

other thing is that- determining field is Masked field or not is sufficient-thru-
    (This is from help)
    BOOLEAN bMasked
    bMasked = Emp.DW_Emp.SSN.IsMasked()

testcase will be- 'Verify password field is masked'

    Re: GetText on masked field

This dog has been whipped to death here. Do a search and you'll find it in many places. Sad truth is, there is no good answer to this problem. I need it to, and so far as I know, no answer exists.
