    Check Out a License

    Okay, this is really frustrating...

I thought we were supposed to be able to "check out" a license from the Lic Server. How is this done? I see nothing in the help about it, and cannot find anything in the Policy Admin tool to do this. I'd like to work from home this weekend and need to check out a license to do so.

    Re: Check Out a License

    Hi This bothers me too,

Even if you can access yr pffice domain through VPN you will not be able to work with Silk thats on your laptop because host id is changed. Do you have any solution for this?

    Re: Check Out a License

    1. (I'll assume that you have installed SilkTest 5.5 on your laptop, specifying your central license server as the license server.)

    2. Install SilkMeter 2.3 or higher on your laptop. When the installer asks you, specify whatever you want for the license server -- you can change that later.

    3. (If SilkTest or the Agent are running, kill them.)

    4. Open the SilkMeter User Policy Administrator on your laptop.

    5. If at the top it says "connected to host (your central server)," skip to step 6. If it says "connected to host localhost," pick Edit\Configure Manager Connection. In the SilkMeter Configure Manager Connection dialog, make sure that Use SilkMeter Manager is selected. Specify your central server as the server from where you wish to check out the policy, then click OK. Note that the bar at the top of the User Policy Administrator now reads "connected to host (your central server)."

(FYI: In the Policy Administrator, you should now see two icons with hover text saying "Check-out Mobile Policy" and "Check-in Mobile Policy." You can click on the little red keys in the lefthand panel to get information about each multi-user policy file (including how many seats are left on each policy). You can also click on the little bluish circly icons to the left of the red keys to expand/collapse the policy files and see/hide the individual users. Another GUI element that might be important to you is the toolbar button that looks like a green circular arrow - that's the refresh button, which updates the info in the lists.)

    6. From the left list, select an Agent policy (again, click on the red key) that you want to check out a temporary seat from. In the right panel, make sure there is at least one seat still available. Click the "Check-out Mobile Policy" button. Leave the default of 1 check-out policy set as is, and increase the number of days to up to 14 if you want. Leave the "Connect to local SilkMeter server" unchecked for now. Click OK.

    7. Now repeat the last bulleted item for a SilkTest policy, except that this time, before you click OK, check the box that says "Connect to local SilkMeter server."
Now your Policy Administrator indicates that you're connected to localhost. You should also see a little blue key for an Agent license, and a little blue key for a SilkTest license. You can now kill the Policy Administrator, and boot the Agent and SilkTest and run unconnected to the network.
