    Stay away from SP2a

I have seen several major issues specially when you use SP2a with IE6.0 on a newly developed application, the major one is internal agent error 'read past end of buffer'and agent 'dies' that halts the regression. Segue thinks it could be a timming issue but it is not.
So far I have seen SP1 performace much better. I thought I should warns others before they waste a month to get to this conclusion.

So, the question is, since the CD we recently purchased IS 5.5 SP2, how do we back that out to SP1?

You uninstall the product. Download SP1 from the segue site and install that. The service packs are really full installable builds. They don't need to be baselined for adding service packs.

Just so people know, I am not trying to scare people from using SilkTest tool.
I have used winrunner and rational tools for automation and I have no dought, SilkTest is far superior than winrunner. Don't believe me? try using winrunner you 'll be sick and surprised how could it gain 40% of the market.
Regarding SP2a, I think quality is definietly going down and Segue should put more emphasis on QA.

    Re: Stay away from SP2a

Boy, ditto that! I can't get SYS_CompareBinary() to work! No matter how I do it, it always reports:
*** Error: Unable to open file 'test1.txt' -- No such file or directory
    for the second file.

Tough luck on backing off of SP2a. They've pulled all other version off the site. But If I have my way with this case, I'll have them put the previous version back up.

BTW, I suspect the reason they were so anxious to pull the earlier versions of 5.5 was to fix the "back door" into Silk that doesn't require SilkMeter to be running or even an available license.

    Re: Stay away from SP2a

Was SP2a the version that was going to support JRE 1.4 ?? There were a couple of posts stating that SP was available which now supports JRE 1.4. Has anyone tried this yet ? Just wondering.

    Re: Stay away from SP2a

    Hi,

I have 5.0.3.2 on my machine. We do have
5.5 but did not install yet.

    Is 5.5 anyway better than 5.0.3.2 ?
If not I will stay with current version
    for few more days.

    Thanks in advance.

Btw 5.302 and 5.5 SP1, performance wise SP1 is much better.
We run thousands of testcases everynight and I haven't encountered a single blocking issue.

    Re: Stay away from SP2a

    Hello KS,

I have also come across the "read past end buffer error" in Silk 5.5 sp1 and IE 5.5 combo. I am not able to resolve this issue. As per the tech supp, it has been resolved in sp2a. But you seem to face the same problem. Can you tell me where are you facing such a problem? Did u face this problem in Sp1 also? if so what sort of workaround did u use to bypass this problem?
This question s to all --IF ANYONE HAS FOUND A WORKAROUND THEN DO LET ME KNOW.
