How to use child controls to uniquely tag a parent form?

    Hello,

The application I am testing uses a custom tabstrip control that loads a form and embeds it into the active tag strip. The structure is similar to this:

    TabStrip Control
    FormControl1
    TextField1
    TextField2
    etc...
    FormControl2
    TextField1
    TextField2
    etc...
    FormControl3
    TextField1
    TextField2
    etc...

I had to define each FormControl seperately, then paste them into their respective position within the frame file. The problem I am having is, each FormControl is identical to Silktest. Therefore, when referencing an object in the 4test file, Silktest cannot determine which formcontrol I am using, and will use the incorrect control. Tech support tried helping, however the information they gave me wasn't complete. Can someone help me understand using a forms child controls to help make it unique to Silktest?

I am using Win98, Silktest 5.5, and testing Delphi 3-5 applications.

Try re-declaring the tab strips, and look at the Window ID tag. (it starts with a $) These should be unique, even when nothing else about the control is. This is usually how I solve the kind of problem you're having.

I agree with earlier post. You can edit the window id if this not working work around is uing TYPEKEYS to play tab to go to the desired tabstrip and then jump into the field you want.

Re: How to use child controls to uniquely tag a parent form?

The Tabstrips are all identical. There is no difference, including Window IDs. According to Silktest, all the tabs are one and the same. I spoke to support and they told me that I will have to use child controls to uniquely tag the parent control.

I have attached the inc file in the event someone would like to view it for themselves.

    Thanks for everyone's input.

Your inc file doesn't contain the window declaration you're concerned with - searches for TabStrip and FormControl come up negative.
