How are you inserting this text into the Excel file? Are you actually using the Excel UI or using the DB Tester functions in SilkTest?

    By using DB_tester functions.
The actual length of the string is more than 255 characters. (288 char's). But it's inserting 255 characters only.

Sounds like a bug. Whether it's a defect in the ODBC driver or SilkTest is anyone's guess. I'd log it with Segue and see what they say.

Re: Text cutoff while inserting in the Excel file.

An addendum to my earlier comment....

I just tried inserting a 280 character string into Excel, Access, and SQL Server databases. In Excel, the string was truncated to 255 characters. In both Access and SQL Server, the string was inserted as stated, 280 characters.

So it sounds like it's a limitation of either Excel's database capabilities or the ODBC driver for Excel.

Re: Text cutoff while inserting in the Excel file.

Well, as I said earlier, it sounds like a limitation of the Excel ODBC driver since one can put more than 255 characters into an Excel cell when using Excel.

I suppose you could complain to Microsoft about this "feature" in their ODBC driver. I'm sure they'll get right on fixing that. Or you could just use Access as your database, which is probably a better solution anyway.

Re: Text cutoff while inserting in the Excel file.

    string sTc,s1
    string sConnectString = "DSN=Excel Files;DBQ=C:\test.xls"
    handle hDB = DB_Connect(sConnectString)
string sSQL = "INSERT INTO `Sheet1$`(TestName,Value) VALUES ('{sTc}',{s1}')"
    handle hSQL = DB_ExecuteSql(hDB,sSQL)
    DB_FinishSQL(hSQL)
    DB_Disconnect(hDB)

Sheet1 must contain TestName,Value column Names.
