I have an application written in VB6.0 using Sheridan controls. Does anyone have experience with that or a similar setup?
If so, what difficulties have they experienced in automating their testing?
Also, what solutions to those difficulties do they have?
I'm looking to evaluate SilkTest with the intention of automating functional/regression testing.
SilkTest does a good job with VB6 applications. Sheridan controls (now called Infragistics) are very good custom controls. SilkTest supports the VB controls the ship with VB, but it makes it possible to create support for the different custom VB objects you may encounter. Most of the Sheridan controls are compound controls and you therefore need to write some custom methods.
We are extensively testing sheridon controls in a vb6 client as well. We have the custom methods for most of the calendars tackled. Right now are working on tweaking the methods for data grids and comboboxes with DataWidgets. Unfortunatly, there are not a lot of properties available for some of the controls so it is difficult to manipulate the objects (sometimes, messy workarounds are the best thing we can do - TypeKeys("<junk>") - argghhh)). Data grids tend to have a ton of properties, but don't seem to respond to typical properties and methods. Why don't you post a message listing the controls that you are testing and we will see if we are testing any of the same controls.
