Unable to start Internet Explorer 5

The exact error from the results file shows:
    [ ] *** DefaultBaseState is invoking Browser
[ ] *** Error: Unable to start Internet Explorer 5
    [ ] Occurred in AppError
    [ ] Called from Explorer.Invoke at extend\explorer.inc(520)
    [ ] Called from Browser.Invoke at browser.inc(298)
    [ ] Called from DefaultBaseState at defaults.inc(124)
    [ ] Called from main at $ScriptMain(2)

This happens when I ran the DefaultBaseState. I have SilkTest 5.5 on WinNT 4.0 platform. I use Internet Explorer 5.0 with SP2
I have made sure that the Extension Enabler has the same browser extension in the Options/Extensions in SilkTest.
When I watch when it run, I can see that it can invoke the browser because a browser window is launched. But at the point where when it should set the url for the website to test, that's when it fails. It doesn't seem to recognize the browser.

I was able to successfully run scripts before in the same machine I am working on now. The only thing I had to change was the location of the script and frame files that I am working on.

    How do we resolve this?

Re: Unable to start Internet Explorer 5

I faced a similar problem (plus something else) and here is what silk support says for that:

    quote
    Hi Srikanth,

Thank-you for the files and information. I will have a look at them for you
now. In the meantime, I came up with an idea that you can try to remedy your
'memory could not be read' error. HotFix 3 on our website has some fixes for
memory leakage. If you go to www.segue.com - click on customer support and
then click on downloads. Login using the first name of your company as the
username and your customer ID # for your password. Select Browse All
Products then Silk Test followed by the Hot Fix folder.
From the HotFix folder select 5.5_Hot_Fix_3 and download the
5.5_Hot_Fix_3.exe to your SilkTest folder. Then run the .exe from within
your SilkTest folder and then restart your computer when it is complete.

After you install the Hot Fix, you must add a line to your domex.ini file:

    1. Navigate to extend\domex.ini
    2. Scroll down to the [Options] section
    3. Add a new line under the [Options] section: UseDocumentEvents=FALSE
    4. Save and close your file

If you can do this, then try running your script again and let me know the
    results.

    Thanks

Hi Srikanth ... I am not sure that your suggestion relates to the problem I am having.

I suggest that you try this as I faced the same problem. I installed HF3 and helped me with the memory leak problem as well!!

Re: Unable to start Internet Explorer 5

Alright... I have followed suit. I installed Hot Fix 3. However when I tried to run the DefaultBaseState, it still produced the same result

Has anyone encountered this? If so what workaround have you done?

Also any other suggestion is welcome, except for uninstalling and re-installing SilkTest (because I have taken that path already to no avail).
