    Can You help me?

    User (murmansk70@yahoo.com.nospam) posted:

Hello! My name is Helen. I am from Brooklyn, NY.
I am 30 years-old, good personality and communication skills.
I have BS in Electronics and Computer Science.
I just finished 7 months private course on Quality Assurance. I
    really like QA.
As everybody knows market conditions lately have not been favorable.
It is an evil circle. If one has no job, one can't gain any
    experience.
On the other hand, if one has no experience, one can't get a job.
    What a surprise….
I am looking for an entry-level position to gain experience or to
    volunteer for a company
located in New York Metro area or New Jersey.
I appreciate your attention to my message. Thank you for your
    responses in advance. H.G.

Job=Experience, No Experience=No Job has been around as long as I can remember. No offense, but I'm only a year older than you and had that one nailed when I was 18.

It might help in interviews and cover letters to make your transition to QA a logical fit with what you have done in the past. In my case, drafting led to production work and machine setup at a printing shop (I wanted to make what I had been drafting for so long). After going to school for QA, I worked in that field at the same printing shop. In leaving that world to shift to software QA, I made the point that in drafting I had done extensive customizations to the CAD program by writing Basic and C code and had good software and hardware knowledge from performing PC support for my drafting department.

The above is just an example. Maybe you can make similar links, maybe not. My wife has been jumping all over the place and I don't know how in the world she'll make a link from QA to vet tech to accounting.

Here are some more places to look for a job. Good luck.

Another way to get work experience is to look for consulting companies. The real employer will not care as much if you have no experience, since you will be there for few months and they love to underpay. You get experience and move on.
Also try the really big companies. They sometimes like to hire a virgin, so that they can train them in their ways.
    Good luck.
