    Clicking on Link problem

    User sumitra (sumitra@prabodhan.com.nospam) posted:

    Hello,
I am testing a web application.
On Home page I am clicking on a tab and then next page is displayed.
On this page there is a link which opens a form.

Now the SilkTest is recognising this link as HtmlText.

    When I write code as
    BrowserPage.HtmlLink("Click here...").Click()

It gives error as :- Window '[HtmlLink]Click Here...' was not found

So I have written a code as
    BrowserPage.HtmlText("Click here...").Click()

It doesn't gives any error at run time and result comes as the testcase
    is passed.
But the form which should be opened is not opened.
So can anybody help me in solving this problem?

    Thanks and Regards,
    Sumitra

    Hi Pandiyan
While recording the Actions I found that caption is used as Tag of
    the
object and the text appears on the Page is different than the caption. Also I
    have not
made any inc file.I am using the default inc file i.e. browser.inc.
When I tried to use the Identifier the error occured as
"Error: Window '[HtmlText]ClickHereToSubscribeORUns1' was not found"

So do you think that I have to create a .inc file first and then only I can
    go ahead
or any alternate method is present there?

One more thing when I saw the window declarations the links were taken of
    class
"HtmlText" and not of class "HtmlLink".

    Thanks in advance
    Sumitra

    Hi Sumitra,

Yes, it helps in many ways if you create inc file explicitly. This will
    solve most of ur problems.
In the way you do it for other applications, first record that entire IE
window then record the objects you will need to work on.
Then include them in ur test script files & start using those objects.

    Regards,
    Pandiyan

    Hi Sumitra,
Try to use window location in click function. It will click exactly to that link which one you want to open.
    Thank you

    Re: Clicking on Link problem

    Hi Pal,
You have mentioned that we have to give window location. But whether the script will run on the machine with different settings?Or there will be any machine dependency while using this method?

    Thanks,
    Sumitra

Now as it is taken as HtmlText can I typecast it to the HtmlLink as
it is a class and if yes, how can i do this?
Or any alternate method is present there to click on the HtmlText
    without using the co-ordinates?
    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Clicking on Link problem

    Hi Sumitra,
Window location (co-ordination) will work on other machine if that have the same configuration as origional script file. If window location change as dynamic app it will not work. I did not get chance to use on other machine because our company has SilkTest only on one machine and WinRunner,LoadRunner on other machine. So I do not want to mixup all tools on one machine.Just have a try.
    Thank you
    Pal

    Dear Sumitra ..

    There is one more altervnative....

while record actions show the image link verify the properties and then
click on the link ... pause recording .. paste to the editor...onec the
pasting is over remove the co-ordinates and keep the parenthesis blank...

    this should work ....
