    Re: Streaming Video

A really ugly way to tackle this would be to attempt to do a bitmap verification on the client area playing the video. It should fail because the graphic never "stabilizes" enough for SilkTest to capture it.

Of course, that wouldn't tell you whether the video played correctly or even that the correct video played.

If the file is correct (checked by checking the URL of the link, perhaps), then checking whether or not it plays correctly in Real Player or Media Player is somewhat moot. If the video is correct, but it plays badly in Media Player (for example), is it the fault of the video or the player? If the player, your developers have no control over fixing it.

    Just a thought.

    Re: Streaming Video

This depends on the exact objectives of your test. You could create a "Test Pattern Streaming Video" which cycled different test patterns.

SilkTest could then capture the Streaming video window and check to see if it matched any of its saved patterns. You could then see if the patterns appeared in the right sequence to verify that the video was "playing".

    Repeat with each player/browser.

Wow! this is interesting. Please let us know what kind of solution you end up with.

Since the video is usually associated with the audio (picture with sound), the best I could do was semi-automated testcase where the input (mouse, keyboard) for selecting and loading a video file is automated in SilkTest and the verification part is non-automated (meaning that I have to watch the video and listen to the sound to ensure that everything in that video is okay).
