SilkTest 5.5 - Is it stable?

I know when SilkTest 5.5 first came out, there was a lot of complaints - both about the new licensing schema, and about broken functionality (HTML drop down issue?).

I just looked on the Segue web site for any patches, but didn't see any.

Now that the dust settled, other than the new licensing scheme that can bee looked at as good or bad, what are your views of the product? Is it stable enough to upgrade to from 5.0.3.2? Any major issues arise in 5.5 that where not present before?

Re: SilkTest 5.5 - Is it stable?

There are actually two (2) hotfixes to SilkTest 5.5. On the web site, go to "Browse All Files", then go back up to the SilkTest level in the tree, then down to the HotFix section.

I'd like to know the answer to this also, but this message has been here for a week now with no real response. Does this mean that no one has successfully transitioned from 5.0.3 to 5.5 ??

    <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I've upgraded to 5.5 as have all of my clients. I believe it's faster than earlier versions on DOM playback. A couple of gotchas (problems with HtmlPopupLists, for example), but many can be worked around or the patches address them.

BTW, a new HotFix was released on Friday.

Re: SilkTest 5.5 - Is it stable?

I have also successfully moved from 5.0.3.2 to 5.5. Still dinking with that dang license server, though. Maybe this time the machine will be a good choice for more than a couple months.

Re: SilkTest 5.5 - Is it stable?

I've been running SilkTest 5.5 since May 2001 with no issues. I'm not using the web features, I work on a fat client Win32 product and use ODBC to access the data server.

Had a problem with SilkMeter, had to add the IP address of the SilkMeter server to the HOSTS file on all clients, thanks to a call to Segue support. Other than that SilkMeter has been working fine.

Re: SilkTest 5.5 - Is it stable?

I tried ST 5.5 at one point, trying to work around problems I was having with the 5.0.3.2 DOM support. Unfortunately, ST 5.5 didn't fix *any* of the issues I was seeing in 5.0.3.2, and I ran into one new problem, a showstopper for me. On one particular page, at one particular point, the agent suddenly lost its mind and saw it as a completely empty BrowserPage. It didn't pick up the recorded declaration for the window, it saw none of the window's children, and I found no workaround. I ended up going back to 5.0.3.2, because the devil you know is more acceptable than the devil you don't know.

Re: SilkTest 5.5 - Is it stable?

I have successfully moved from SilkTest 5.3 to SilkTest 5.5 and I have created lot stuff with SilkTest 5.5 and everything is running perfectly. Few times getting problem with Silk Meter. This feature needs to be looked into by the Segue to make it more robust and give its customers a peace of mind.

Have any of you had this problem with Silk 5.5. When
I ever I try and record anything within IE 5.5, Silk
is seeing the browser as a MainWin instead of a
BrowserPage. Any help would be greatly appreciated
