Silk wants to close the DOS box runing Java

I am testing a Java application on Win 98 using Silk 5.0.3.2

Whenever I call CloseWindows() in my testcases, Silk wants to shut down the DOS box that is running Java. Of course, Windows won't let it do this, but that doesn't stop Silk from trying an infinite number of times.

I have tried putting the DOS box as a MainWin into the lwLeaveOpen list (e.g lwLeaveOpen = {MainWin("java")}, but Silk still insists on trying to close the DOS box runnning Java.

Silk Tech Support verified this is a problem, but did not have any solution. Hmmmm. Anybody else have ideas? I have tried hacking the CloseWindows in winclass.inc, to prevent it ever trying to close the MainWin running Java, but without success.

Change the program from using java.exe to using javaw.exe

I would certainly think using Javaw.exe would do the trick, but if not, get the ID of each window and then have a conditional loop call CloseWindows() based on that ID. If the id indicates this is your java.exe or javaw.exe, then don't close that one.

Thank you both for your advice.

I switched to using javaw.exe and that solved the problem.

It's so wonderful when people here can solve a problem that Silk Tech Support are clueless about.

    Your welcome.
I was thinking, maybe SilkTest is so powerful because of it's users. If Segue had all the answers, we wouldnt be learning this much in getting the product to work.
    Anyhow, test on.

Re: Silk wants to close the DOS box runing Java

    So Tony,

You recommend SilkTest than WinRunner. By the way, can a tester with a minimum interest in coding be able to successfully user SilkTest? I want a tool to automate a regression testing of a java app but I am not sure yet which way to go. I have done some reading on these tools but never used them to automate a test.
    Thanks
