setup for stand alone Java application

    User Just Koka (user1019@hotmail.com) posted:

I've installed SilkTest 5.0.3 and I'm trying to configure it to run
    previously written scripts.
The problem is that Silk doesn't recognize anything but the window's
title. All I'm able to do it to have the window maximized. If I run
window declaration, it shows the window name and tag, but no
controls. If I'm trying to record a testcase, the output appears as
Click() methods with coordinates on the window, not on the actual
    controls.

My computer is setup as follows: Classpath includes
SilkTest_Java2.jar, Java extension is enabled, Runtime option uses
    javaex.inc file.

Is there a configuration I'm missing or a checklist I should follow
to make sure that everything is set up correctly?

    Thanks,
    -Konstantin

Are you doing Browser testing with Internet Explorer? I ran into a situation once where Silk had the same problem identifying controls, and upgrading to a newer version of Explorer solved it.

There are so many things to setup for a Java app ... Are you the one who setup the previous configuration? What I mean is have you done that before? Just trying to assess your experience level is all.

What's the sCmdLine value to run the app?

In Extension Enabler tool and in SilkTest under Options > Extensions do you have teh Java extension fully enabled? (Java column checked)?

    kkifa,

Be certain the application's own classpath is not overriding the classpath of your system environment. There is always the danger of losing the SilkTest_Java2.jar from the classpath. If this happens, you will see the very results you are experiencing.

There is actually an article in Segue@Work newsletter about how to setup for java app testing(if I remember it right)

Click on the loom in segue.com(top of page)
    and search.
