Want to do setup steps ONCE for a group of testcases in a testplan

    BACKGROUND:
I am an experienced SilkTest user but new to testplans. I've always used scripts with main() to call testcases, but for a new project (non-GUI, API testing) I'd like to use a testplan because of its marking and query features.
    DESIRED EFFECT:
For testcases in a particular script file, I need to do some setup steps (initialize database tables, etc). In the testplan I placed the script at a group level above a set of testcases.
    PROBLEM:
ScriptEnter seemed to be the perfect place to do the setup steps but to my amazement, ScriptEnter is being called for every testcase!!! Can this really be the way it's supposed to work? I've considered setting an environment variable as a flag to control the setup but I don't really want to go there. Please help! Thanks, Jim

Using a setup testcase is the only way I have found that works.

I'm using 5.0.3 - defining a TestplanEnter routine didn't do anything for me.

If it truly is in 5.5, that might be a good reason to upgrade.

This is what I do (it's not the same thing, but may be close):

In my testplan, I have a couple testcases right at the top. One deletes some cookies and another deletes some files. I always mark the top two, then mark whatever else I want to run. That way, when I run all the marked tests, the necessary cookie and file deletions are carried out.

    Hopefully this helps,
    Steve

ST 5.5 and I think ST 5032 both have a new TestplanEnter and TestplanExit methods. Haven't tried them but they might work...
