    An automation infrastructure

From the book "Automated Software Testing", by E. Dustin, J. Rashka, and J Paul:
"A Library of reusable functions ...may have been created for test efforts on different projects..."
The Following functional scripts are recommended:
    1. Table - driven test automation
    2. PC environment set up script
    3. Login function
    4. Exit function
    5. Navigation function
    6. Verifying GUI function
    7. Error - login routines.
    8. Help function verification script
    9.Timed message boxed function
    10. Advanced math functions
    11. Smoke test
    12 Automated recording options

Could you, please, give me additional functionality from your work experience with SilkTest and other test tools?
Also, I would like to know what is your library tree structure.

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: An automation infrastructure

I think what you need is to know your product(web pages) well.

Draw out the patterns and areas that you think are similar.

Group your pattern into useful set of functions.

The strategy is seeing the big picture then be able to tell what can be grouped and reused.

You have most if not all of the useful functions or concept. The most important
step is: 6. Verifying GUI function.
Other items you mentioned are your low level testing tools(except item 11).

The essence of web testing is be able to access an object and return its diagnostics.

    Good luck. Hope that helps.

    Re: An automation infrastructure

It is really great idea! What is the date and name of conference? Where I can get information about it (conferences)?

I agree with you about separating the data from the code, or the Tool from the Testcase.
So far, I was able read and write data using TXT and INI files.
But I cannot figure out How To Read Data From Excel using Silk and other stuff (parsing and mapping).
Could you please, or anybody else, give the detailed example (code and output) of reading Excel at least?

    Thanks a lot.
