It sounds like you need to enable the VB extensions for your application. Check the manual for exactly how to do this. In the version I have there is a chapter (3) entitled "Enabling Extensions for Applications Under Test." It is probably in the help file as well.

After you enable the extension you may have to record your window declarations again, so the VB objects are all recognized.

    Re: VB program

did you try to use GetWindowText() in silk??

Yes, if you know how to code VB then this is easy. Just include "msw32.inc" in your script
and call user32.dll apis. To see if this helps.

You can also include a new extention to silk by adding the appropriate(the tricky part) .exe and .dll of your program(try to only add the .exe first).

    Re: VB program

As Matt says, (and as I found out a couple of weeks ago) you will need to add the program to your extensions.

Add the *.exe file and enable ActiveX, do this in SilkTest Options-->Extensions, and also the Extension Enabler from the SilkTest windows program group.

    Re: VB program

The original post was in reference to Visual Basic labels. I am not sure where he is asking about window captions.
Anyway, once the extensions are enabled, SilkTest will recognize the labels, and no special functions like this one will be necessary.

    MattGray:

    What are you talking about?

In VB the only label I can think of is the 'Name' of the control or form, which is the caption. What other label is rafiki47 talking about?

A label control in VB is the same as static text. In SilkTest the class is called VBLabel. If you have not enabled extensions for your VB application, then the Record Windows output will not contain any StaticText or VBLabel controls.

    Re: VB program

    Sorry i was out yesterday....

OK let me clear some of the confusion.
I created an app in VB.
I went into Start/programs/silktest/extensions enabler and added the .exe file i was going to test.Everything else i left at (None) and no checks. The i go into silk and do it again inside Silk.Same settings.
Now i try to record Window declarations. When i do the it picks up the window tag like this....
    msw tag "[ThunderRT6CommandButton]View All Privileges"

Then i have two Combo boxes that silk sees as

    TextField TextField1 tag "#1"

so they both look the same??????????????
