Silktest records HtmlPopupList but doesn\'t sees it in Playback

    Hello again,

I'm currently testing a web application under IE 5.5 using DOM extensions. When I record the win declarations silktest sees all the HtmlPopupList on the page, but when I try to run my scripts, Silk fails complaining not to see the HtmlPopupList !? What am I missing? The recorder tags seem to be correct....

    regards

Re: Silktest records HtmlPopupList but doesn\'t sees it in Playback

Sometimes in order to get SilkTest to see objects I have had to sleep or slow down the application.

MikeF: Thanks alot for your reply. I tried with sleep but it didn't work for me, Silk still can't find the HtmlPopupList at runtime, only at recording... Any other suggestions?

Re: Silktest records HtmlPopupList but doesn\'t sees it in Playback

I've had a lot of problems with HtmlPopupLists too.

Here are 2 things that have worked for me...
    1. Add this line of code -
    Agent.SetOption(OPT_VERIFY_RESPONDING, FALSE)

    2. I don't know if this is the case, but when I've had the most problems, it's been when the HtmlPopupList is the last thing I'm testing on the page. Such as there are a lot of textfields etc that I'm filling in and when I get to the popuplist SilkTest can't see it. Try selecting from the popuplist first thing and then go on to test the other objects on the page.

    Hope this helps.

Re: Silktest records HtmlPopupList but doesn\'t sees it in Playback

DanaK: Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately none of your suggestions worked for me.

Point 1: No effects, Silk still doesn't see the HtmlPopupList at playack, only when recording win declarations

Point 2: In the page (frame) I'm testing, there only elements available are three HtmlPopupList that I need to pickup some items from before going onto the next page (frame) for further testing.

Hint: When I use the record object identifier from Silk, it sees the HtmlPopupList correctly, but when I expand the PopupList (to view the available Items) it sees it as a Customwin, without Parent, no Child, and no specific class I can try to map it to. But when I try to record the win declarations, Silk sees the HtmlPopupList properlly, even when it's expanded. Any clue?

You might not have a lot of luck if your are test a multi-frame web pages. I had problem seen PopupList too I think.

2 workarounds for such problem are:

1)reference your PopupList with the prior text and with as many ID as possible(win ID, caption, prior text, location, index) I believe silk tries them all(I might be wrong here).

2)tab over your control from a sure place and then do a GetFocus() which returns a window type of your control(ex.: GetFocus().Select() for popuplist)

What version of Silk are you using? Since you'[re using IE5.5, make sure you have SilkTest 5.5.

What is your DOM Borderless table setting? I recommend "0".

Is the popup list in a nested table?

These kinds of problems are nearly always fixable.

    Hope this helps

Re: Silktest records HtmlPopupList but doesn\'t sees it in Playback

    Hello John,

thanks for your reply. I'm using SilkTest 5.0.3.2. Couldn't convince my managers to upgrade to SilkTest 5.5 (renewal of our maintainance contrat !).

When I set the DOM borderless table to "0", SilkTest does not see anything in the page but the frames names, without all the other elements in them. Yes the popup list is in a nested table.

Re: Silktest records HtmlPopupList but doesn\'t sees it in Playback

Thanks alot for all your replies, I finally got it going. Thanks to John's suggestion about setting the DOM table setting to "0", everything works fine and Silk sees the HtmlPopupLists correctly. At first I set it and didn't restart the Browser, thus Silkt didn't see anything but after I restart the Browser (IE 5.5) recording and playback was fine. End of a week of frustration and happilly testing again. Thanks alot everyone.

    best regards
