Yes and possibly no. We upgraded to SilkTest 5.5 from 22.214.171.124 a couple weeks ago and we have been using the old agents on our agent-only machines and they have been working fine. However, I have noticed that some of our Java applets are being viewed a little differently and cannot be seen when scripts are executed. I am not sure if this is because of the old agent or if it is because of the new version of SilkTest. I have not been able to get the new agent running with SilkMeter yet, so I cannot tell for sure. I'll let you know if the using the old agent is a problem if I find out it is.
