Iam testing the sample GMO Online application. The
manual(testing web application) says that new
customers should use DOM while existing customers can
use VO extension.
Since Iam testing on Netscape I decided to go ahead
and use DOM.
Iam not clear though as to when to use DOM and when to
use VO. Can anybody please help me with that??
You use DOM for testing Internet Explorer 5.x only.
You use VO for all supported browsers and you need to use it if you are doing cross-browser testing.
Silk Test version 5.5 now provides the extension to test Netscape 6 DOM as well as the above.
Hope this helps.
At the latest Quest, Susan Gottschlich and Mark McDonough presented on this topic.
Generally Dom is quicker.
Dom is independent of browser resizing, font size (important!!).
Dom sees some non-gui objects (htmlhidden, etc). Dom supports XML. tends to be more robust on more complex websites.
VO strengths: supports earlier versions of browsers. Able to get properties of objects as the actually appear on the page.
Basically, they said for all new apps, you should use dom. If you are having some wierd probs on older apps with the vo extension, try switching to Dom.
Hope this helps!
