how to record the values in flexigrid.

    hi ,
    i m working on client-server, using VB.
can anyone suggest the way to record the values in the fexigrid?
the silk do identify a grid , but the value in the grid can not be captured.
the problem is analogus to the problem of identifing the single cell in the spreadsheet.
    can anyone help?

    thanks

Re: how to record the values in flexigrid.

I did deal with FlexGrid while testing a VB app. My app just required to read/edit the values in the grid. Following code should print each cell contents in the .res file.

    "iMaxCols = (YourGridIdentifier).iCols"
The above line will get the total number of columns in your grid.
'iCols' is the property of flexgrid. You can directly access it or you can go via the 'GetProperty' method.
To know the available properties and methods for flexgrid, do record actions, keep the mouse pointer inside the grid and click "ctrl+alt", you will get to see all the properties and methods of the flexgrid.

Re: how to record the values in flexigrid.

Shef is recording the flexgrid as a winclass.
    use record|windows declaration

I presume it returns everything you want to know about that app.

You then access this winclass as a record
I presume also you can use all the anywin functions.

This method is not good practice. If your flexgrip changes I am not sure what will go wrong, since your recorded winlass will not be updated. Otherwise this is the laziest way you can accomplish your job:P

Godknows - God only knows if you have ever dealt with FlexGrids. It is one of the standard class supported by SilkTest.

Can you enlighten others with the BEST practice to deal with FlexGrid control.

What is the property that you need to use ?

I did ask you to see the available properties and methods so that you know precisely what properties you can use.

Let me know the property you intend to use and I may be able to help you.

Re: how to record the values in flexigrid.

let me explain the things i had tried and the problems i faced, rigth from the start.

    i m using silk 5.0
i need to read the valued from the flexigrid. the normal way to capture the values from any cntrl is to use the method getcaption().
but this method doesn't work for the flexigrid.so i had no solution to read the values.

now as per ur suggesition ,Shef,
i tried to use property iCols.

for that , i did record|actions. i clicked on the flexigrid and press 'cntrl-Alt' .
it gives me all the properties for the flexigrid . but the problem is now this set doesn't contain the property 'iCols'

so what to do ? how to add the property in the set ? is my basic qstion.

    thanks

Re: how to record the values in flexigrid.

I have never used SilkTest 5.0 but I think SilkTest 5.0 and Silktest 5.0.2 both would handle FlexGrid in similar manner.

I am attaching the declaration of the FlexGrid class.

Let me know if it worked for you with SilkTest 5.0
