Use the tag "~ActiveApp/[DialogBox]Confirm File Deletion" and remove parent
. No need to capture window InstallShieldWizard. Hope it will work.

You don't need a test tool. InstallShield has a built-in capture replay
mechanism called "silent install". Check the FAQ on their website. It's all
laid out. You need to create a "response file."

This is about 20 times easier than using SilkTest, if you already know
Silktest. It is about 100 times easier if you don't.

Re: Re: How to go about automating Install/Uninstall

    Bret,

Silent install is not intended as a "test" but rather as a way of not having to have users deal with an endless series of dialogs when the installation will be done 50 times the same way. You can just run it and walk away, confident that all install options will be dealt with as they should be. There is Zero verification of the install.

Install automation can test any number of things. I have a set of very elaborate scripts that test the install from multiple angles.

It is important to test the install dialogs, to test uninstall, to reinstall, to inststall over the top of a previous install, to check file locations and registry settings, to abort the install, to crash the install, to test it with invalid parameters, etc.

A silent install does none of these things.

Now, where it is a valuable thing in testing is where you want to install the product quickly and easily so that you can test the product itself, rather than the installation of it.
