    (unknown)

    User John (tinka_boy@yahoo.com) posted:

I am trying to test a list of URLs via SilkTest. So far I have been
able to get Silk to open the text file that contains the URLs, and
paste the last URL in the list to the IE Address field. I have been
unable to figure out how to make it select a new URL from the list
    everytime the program is run.
I have set a counter/loop in the main part of the testplan. The
    testcase code is:
    Testcase cut_paste ()
    [ ] HFILE hFile
    [ ] STRING sURL
    [ ] hFile = FileOpen ("110023urls.txt", FM_READ)
[ ] while (FileReadLine (hFile, sURL))
    [ ] AboutBlankMicrosoftIntern.SetActive ()
    [ ]
    AboutBlankMicrosoftIntern.WorkerA1.ReBarWindow321. ComboBox1.SetText
    (sURL)
    [ ]
    AboutBlankMicrosoftIntern.WorkerA1.ReBarWindow321. ComboBox1.TypeKeys
    [ ] Printf ("%s", sURL)
    [ ] FileClose (hFile)

    Any help would be welcomed.

    Thanks.

    John

I am not sure what do you mean by 'everytime the program is run'.

    Re: (unknown)

Assuming that your requirement is just to test multiple URLs, you can use the following code
    [ ] HFILE hFile
    [ ] STRING sURL
    [ ] hFile = FileOpen ("110023urls.txt", FM_READ)
[ ] while (FileReadLine (hFile, sURL))
    [ ] [ ] Printf ("%s", sURL)
    [ ] [ ] Browser.LoadPage(sURL)
[ ] [ ] your function to test the URL should be called here
    [ ] FileClose (hFile)

    Re: (unknown)

It seems that in my pre-caffene haze I was unclear as to my problem. What I need the testcase to do is grab only one URL from the list, paste it into the browser, and then run thru the next few testcases. After completing all testcases, the loop I have set in the main testplan should return to this testcase and extract the next URL from the list for testing.
The code that was posted by Shef causes all of the URls from the list to be entered before it continues to the next testcase.

    Thanks.
    John

    hi,

I have W2K with IE5, and I would like to test a java app. As per silk help,
which needs me to setup the JDK, I have downloaded JDK 1.3. Am I ready to
test java apps? I am a bit confused as the help also mentions that Silk only
supports testing IE5 on Windows NT. Me thinks W2K is also an NT platform so
this should be OK. Am I on the right track guys?

    P.S. Should I use JDK 1.1.8 or JDK 1.3?

I am just starting out on Java apps so please excuse any dumb questions .
Any help not specifically asked for is also most welcome ... (duh ?? I don't
know what I should ask for)

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Niranjan,
From your description it seems that you are going to test applets with silk
test. For testing applets what matters is the jre that your browser is
using. Until unless you are using any plugin for your applets all matters is
the browser jre version. Please check with status.html (located in
your browser is using and add the appropriate jar file(SilkTest_Java1.jar or
    SilkTest_Java2.jar) in your classpath.

However if you are using any plugin than the path for that plugin and
appropriate jar file should be there in classpath.

You need jdk installed only if you are testing standalone java application.
if that is the case forget about the description given above and don't
bother about browser version. if your application is using jre 1.2 or above,
you can install jdk 1.3 and add SilkTest_Java2.jar in your classpath.

Hope I have cleared some of your doubts.
    Thanks
    Avnish

    Re: (unknown)

The easiest way to do this is to use a temp(copy of th original) file that contains the url. Then remove the url entry that you just used, so next time you can pick any other url.
