What are some good SilkTest Interview Questions?

What would be some good questions to ask an Candidate interviewing for a QA position to gauge there understanding of SilkTest?

Re: What are some good SilkTest Interview Questions?

We usually start blatantly with some basics of having them actually define terms such as frame file, window declarations, method, tag values (windowID, caption, etc.) and when/why you would use one over the other, and a quick quiz on the "usual" methods that you would use for various objects (i.e., for a checkbox you usually use Check, Uncheck, Toggle, for a dropdown you usually use Select, etc.).

We also ask them to provide samples of their previous work (if it won't compromise a proprietary-type situation). Then as part of the final interview we actually sit them down at a computer with SilkTest on it, provide a brief introduction to our environment and AUT, then ask them to do a few things such as Record Identifiers, navigate through the frame file to locate the window declaration for window <x>, write a method for window <x> that takes one parameter that's the value for field <y>, set the value, etc.

We also give what we call our "ATM Test". If they claim to know Silk Organizer we have them do it there (or we give them a quick training session on Organizer first). Here's exactly what we tell them: "You'll have 8 minutes to write a test plan to test an ATM machine. I'll leave the room then come back in 7-1/2 minutes and halt the test after a total of 8 minutes. Go." No additional information or guidance is provided. We "grade" the test based on volume of content, fluidity of end result, level of detail attempted, use of indentation, etc. We save ALL such tests and use historical ones for comparison.

Re: What are some good SilkTest Interview Questions?

    I usually start off by:

    1. Do you consider yourself a programmer or recorder?
    2. Can you give me some examples of class methods
you've used: I start with something a little hard,
TreeView, then go as far down as Movable Window! You
may think that is a dumb question, but it's the best
way to tell a programmer from a beginner.
    3. Can you give me an example of where I would need
Class mapping? (little vague, but gives an open field
    to experiment with)
I have a few more harder questions, but the previous
ones are enough to give you a clear evaluation.

Re: What are some good SilkTest Interview Questions?

    I don't have specific
questions but I recently bought a book called "Automated Software
Testing" by E. Dustin. There is a chapter on job roles, the makeup
    of a
team and the things to look for in an interview. For example: "Could
you describe how you've overcome technical problems and the kinds of
results that you have had?" "Could you outline your perspective of
    the
    test engineering life cycle?"

Give examples of testable and nontestable requirements and have the
candidate define which requirements are deemed to be testable and
    which
ones are not. Ask him/her to give examples of deriving test
requirements and test strategies. Other than that I guess you ask
    for
examples of how they used Silk in a variety of conditions.
