    Recording Window tags

    Hi

I am trying to automate a web application.Since it is a good practice to use the Window tags always I am declaring my windows with this option on. But I have been running into few problems like - the window tags which are declared are not the same everytime. Has anyone come across this problem-or any suggestions for declarations..

    Thanks

    Sandeep

    Re: Recording Window tags

    Hi Godknows

Sorry for not clearly explaining my problem. By window tags i meant window ids-the tag recorded with the $ preceding a number. Recording a index tag is not a good idea as far as i know. But these window ids are not the same for an object. It differs each time. So i had to revert back to theindex tags in my declaration. Hope i made myselves clear.

    Any suggestions.
    Thanks
    Sandeep

    Re: Recording Window tags

I am not understanding what do you mean by window tags? Do you mean browser captions or control captions? Or both. Also what do you mean "I am declaring my windows with this option on"??

    Anyhow:
    1)use VO
2)can set focus(control.SetFocus()) on controls that you want, so Silk finds it for you.
3)your html app might be coded poorly in Silk standard(which is the one with problems~_~)

    4)what is your exact problem?

    Re: Recording Window tags

Unfortunately many applications do not have consistent and durable window ids - I think it depends on what language your app is written in. I guess you're going to have to make do with captions, indexes and possibly locations.

    Re: Recording Window tags

try to use both CAPTION AND ID.

    HtmlPushButton("CAPTION|#INT|ID")
    CAPTION: Caption of control
#INT rder of occurence (ex. #1)
    ID :control id

    Try something like reference tabbing.
Get to a point where you know it's there all the time and tab over to the control of your choice.

    Re: Recording Window tags

    Sandeep,

If you are working with Delphi or PowerBuilder apps, most likely you'll end up using the combination Windows Caption / Index and also locations (for those Custom objects and objects not seen by SilkTest). Those were the apps that showed the Windows ID changing all the time (almost every new release of the AUT) and the numbers are not easy to remember $1567893 then the next release will show $4334988 or something like that.
