    Control Panel automation

    Hi Everyone

I am trying to automate an application which requires me to go the Control Panel-Services-and select a particular service and stop it. My problem is after i go to the services listbox- i get just an index whereas i need that to be identified by the text.

    Any thoughts

    Thanks in advance

    use SC...
    e.g. SC \\computer STOP servicename

check out 'Windows NT Shell Scripting' by Tim Hill, published by MacMillan.

You can do some cool things without ever having to bother with a gui. I find this approach to be more robust than using a gui for everything.

    Re: Control Panel automation

NT services can be started and stopped at the command line using,
    net start or net stop.
For example to stop the web server service: net stop w3svc.
You'll find the name of the service is given in the properties for each service.

So then just use silks sys_execute command to start and stop that particular service.

    Re: Control Panel automation

I ran into the same problem with the Services UI about a year ago. After writing a lot of complicated and still not totally reliable Silk code I got clear on the fact that I was not testing the Windows > Control Panel > Services dialogbox and then had no issues with resorting back to the simplistic DOS command line approach using "net start" and "net stop".
