Re: how to keep track of multiple instances of an app?

    I have a similar situation.

I have solved it very elegantly and robustly using O-O techniques, but my solution makes
my testing style very different from that taught by Segue.

I have a "master class" which encapsulates all of the objects and window declarations for
a single instance of the application.

Each of the multiple applications is an instance of this "master class" with a different name.

I have then redefined all of the SilkTest methods that I normally use so that they first
check which application is active and then call the derived:: version of the method.

This is also a complicated solution -- but it works very nicely !

how to keep track of multiple instances of an app?

    Hi!
I need to keep track of multiple instances of a non-browser-based application in my testing. I need to be able to choose among those instances freely. So far I have developed a complicated solution using AppId. I wonder if there is a simplier approach to this issue. I have tried multitags, but it did not work for me.

    Thanks,

Re: how to keep track of multiple instances of an app?

Thanks much for the reply. I will have to get back to this issue after finishing up some other tasks at hand.

But I do have one question just by reading your solution. What do you mean by "Each of the multiple applications is an instance of this 'master class' with a different name."? Is the "different name" a member variable of your "master class" or is it the identifier of an individual instance? If it is the latter, since all the instances have the same tag in my case and different identifiers won't help to distinguish them individually. So it should be the former, i.e. a member variable of your class. But in that case, do you also have to loop through all the instances in order to find the right instance? That's how I did it.

    Thanks again,
