    Question regarding Tutorials for SilkBean

I'm trying to learn to use SilkBean, and was trying to take the Swing quick tour.
It says to download Java Runtime Environment version 1.1.7+ and Swing version 1.0.1+.
I just checked out the www.Javasoft.com site & it seems these versions are older ones
    than what they have now.

Does this mean SilkBean can only be used with the older versions of
Java Runtime Environment or can it be used with the current versions?

Just by looking at your message closely, I think you'll find the answer to your question. The "+" sign usually means "or newer", "or later", "or beyond", etc.

Re: Question regarding Tutorials for SilkBean

Thanks for your reply... but you didn't quite answer my question.

In the tutorial, it specificalls says "This quick tour was not designed to run with JDK 1.2 or JRE 1.2" and "This quick tour was not designed to run with Swing 1.1+".

The latest version is JRE 1.3 and it is even later than 1.2! So do I need to look for the older versions of JRE & Swing in order to go through this tutorial?

Re: Question regarding Tutorials for SilkBean

    YoungMee:

SilkBean is for very advanced Java testing with multiple computers.
It requires that you work with BOTH Windows (since the Silktest host only runs on Windows) AND Unix, and it requires that you understand the communications setup between the two computers.

I think that you are just trying to get started with Java testing on Windows.

For this, you just need to turn on the Java extension in SilkTest and add a special SilkTest ".jar" file to your Java application's ClassPath.

    Rob,

    Thanks for your reply
I'm going through the online help & it directed me to take a Swing Quick Tour. I found JRE 1.1.8 and still need to find Swing 1.0.1 in order to do this tutorial... Any idea where I can find Swing 1.0.1? I tried Javasoft.com, but could not find it on their site...

Re: Question regarding Tutorials for SilkBean

I use the Java 2 SDK for Windows from Sun Microsystems, which is available at: http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.2/index.html

This download includes "swing components" for the GUI.

I know that these are compatible with "SilkTest_Java2.jar", because I use them every day.

Upgrade to the very latest SilkTest: 5.0.3.2 to get fixes for a number of problems.

    Hope this helps.
