    DOM/VO for IE5

    Has anyone had any luck using the LoadDOMExtension() and LoadVOExtension()functions.
    I can't seem to get them to work with any reliability.
    I have an application where I have to use both extentions, but not being able to switch back and forth during run time limits my testing.

    Switching between the DOM and VO have worked fine for me. If you're not already doing so, make sure that along with calling the LoadDOMExtension, LoadVOExtension functions, you set the browser type via SetBrowserType().

    So, to load DOM:
    Browser.LoadDOMExtension()
    SetBrowserType(explorer5_DOM)

    to load VO:
    Browser.LoadVOExtension()
    SetBrowserType(explorer5)

    How do you set Extension Enabler, Extensions, and Runtime Options when you've used these functions?

    Well scottc, that's encouraging.
    What platforms and browsers are you using.
    Also, are you doing remote testing (agent)
    I'm running the scripts on NT that tests an application running in IE5 on a Win95 station.

    Re: DOM/VO for IE5

    Everything I'm doing right now is local on an NT4.0 machine running IE5. Not sure how it would run remotely.

    Runtime options-
    Use Files: extend\domex.inc
    Default browser: Internet Explorer 5.0 DOM

    Extensions-
    The extensions via the extension enabler and the options menu have IE DOM set as primary for IE5

    Window declarations-
    I noticed that declarations recorded in VO mode did not always match up with what SILK saw when VO was loaded at runtime. To account for this, I ran some scripts calling GetContents() while the VO was loaded dynamically and then modified the window declarations to account for any discrepancies. I suppose you could also just call the GenerateDecl method.

    Re: DOM/VO for IE5

    I found this in the SilkTest 5.0.3.2 (yes, it's now available on Segue's web site!)release notes:

    In order to use LoadVOExtension and LoadDOMExtension, which allow you to switch extensions from within a testcase, you must edit the extend.ini manually to include both extensions. In extend.ini you see the following lines if the DOM extension is currently enabled:
    [iexplore.exe#5]
    domex.dll=TRUE
    On the other hand, if the VO extension is currently enabled, you see:
    [iexplore.exe#5]
    explore5.vxx=TRUE
    To enable both the DOM and the VO extension, simply list both:
    [iexplore.exe#5]
    explore5.vxx=TRUE
    domex.dll=TRUE
