please helpp - problems identifying or getting values from htmltables?

Our web application brings up a popup window containing many tables. THe problem is that instead of seing some tables as tables it just sees their htmlheading, or text. I have noticed that this only happens to tables with 2 rows (first row is used for column header) and 2 columns. The strangest thing is that some of the 2 row 2 column tables are perfectly recognized by silktest while others that only differ in one of the column header are not recognized by silk. How can I fix that or is their way to force silktest to see the tables.

If you want a good answer to these questions you will need to give OS/Browser and Silktest Version and setting information. Tables can vary a lot in silktest depending on settings and versions. Also in some older versions of silk if columns were populated with differing types of objects, Silktest would sometimes split the table or nor recognise a column (e.g. One column may hold gif's linked out to an action, the next may have text and the next may have a popuplist or textfeild, but the all have static text labels)

I'm not really the table wizard around here, but this info I'm sure someone will be able to help.

Silktest version is 5.0.3.1 and browser is IE 5.00.2920.0000 and OS is Win2k. I have also attached a screenshot showing a portion of the popup window.
the sample screenshot shows two tables. One at the top right and the other bottom right. The bottom right is recognized as a table but the other is not. As you can see, the two only differ in one of the column headers. The whole page actually contains some more tables and silktest has no problem recognizing those.

    thanks ahead for any replies

Re: please helpp - problems identifying or getting values from htmltables?

OK now we're getting somewhere. Are you using VO or DOM. If you are using VO than I'm pretty sure Silk will see both tables as the same table. This is because it will try to name the table after the first text object in the header. If you are using DOM you may have to adjust your DOMEX.INI setting to either 0(zero) or 1. Zero will ignore borderless tables (I use this one). One will see all tables (this may give you the true structure of the page, but it can complicate things).

Record a Tag for each table and make sure that it doesn’t have identical text tags with a number in brackets (the number signifies instances of the same tag) and for Gods sake get rid of any index (#?) tags if you can. If you are using DOM you should be able to get good windows id tags ($Whatever), if you can get these remove all other forms of the tag for each table.

If you have to use VO you may be able to get the table recognized by using a text tag with the bracketed numbers, but chances are the object will not always be recognized. Maybe some of the Table Guru's around here can give some more help.

    woodman,
thanks alot for your help but unfortunately, I have to use VO and some tables just don't get recognized as a table. As you can see from the screenshot there are two almost identical table and one gets recogized as a complete table and the other is just identified as htmlheading and text. It doesnt seem to be a tagging issue but rather a recognition algorithm problem or simply a bug in silktest. I have already contacted segue about is but they haven't replied to me yet. Been waiting for 3 days now. If anybody can help me with this it would be a great help. Being stuck for several days is kind of depressing.

Can you post your exact declarations for both tables on that page? Just the table objects and their parents. I think there may be a work around, but we need to see how they have been declared.

    Thanks,
    Tom

oh well, the latest build of our app changed the look of the report page and now all tables are recognized. However I am still having problems sometimes getting the script to recognize the popup window during playback. I usually solved this problem by pausing the script long enough for the popup window to load completly but that didn't seem to do it this time. The page loads up completely and then silk tries to move on and then it gives out an error stating that the window cannot be found.
