Inconsistent Error Window \'[DialogBox]$explorer5\' was not found\"

We have been testing a web site which opens many child windows.

    Silk Declares child windows as

    [-]window DialogBox xyz
[-] multitag "xyz - Microsoft Internet Explorer"
    [ ] "Microsoft Internet Explorer|$explorer5"

    [ ]
    [-] window BrowserChild xyzWizard
    [ ] tag "#1"
    [ ] parent xyz
    [-] BrowserChild Firstframe
    [].....
    [-] BrowserChild Secondframe
    [].....

And as there are many windows opening like this in a functional test case Silk after some time gives an error

    Window '[DialogBox]$explorer5' was not found"

I have couple of things to ask
    1) Do I need to modify the declartions in the .inc file
    2)Is it a known issue.

cause I have observed that if the page loads faster then Silk works. But if the test server slows down then it gives the above problem.

If anyone has found a workaround for the above problem pl. reply

    Thanks in advance

    Rahul

    P.S I am using SilkTest 5.0.3 and IE 5.00.2314.1003

Re: Inconsistent Error Window \'[DialogBox]$explorer5\' was not found\"

I had the same problem that was even more sensitive than yours. Our webapp will only open up one pop up window that takes a while to load at a time and then my script is suppose to scan that window (it contains a report) and then close it, but most of the time it will give out the same error message u mentioned. I have found a workaround. Most of the time silk can't find the window because the window hasn't finished loading, so if you just use the sleep command. I know silktest is supposed to wait for all pages to load but I found that after upgrading to 5.03 it sometimes tries to move on eventhough the page clearly hasn't finished loading. Of course the slickest way to use the sleep command is in conjunction with the Exists() method. Keep calling that method on the window that is loading until exists is true and then move on.

I use the following to sincronize Silktest with iffy loads. I dodon't know if it will help, but I have copied a response I made on an ealier thread.

...Another thing I have found that will help is to create a function to wait for the mouse pointer to change from whatever (usually APPSTARTING)to anything else before selecting, verifying or clicking on a particularly difficult object, they almost always turn out to be Radio Buttons Checkboxes or Drop down lists.

    here is my function:

Recently someone told me that if you are using SetOption on a browser before you open your browser you will have this Error.

Just invoke your browser before you set any browser options(or all of the option settings).
