Silk and Crystal Reports
It has been a couple of years since I investigated Silk with reporting apps such as Crystal Reports or the "report" metaphor in PowerBuilder. Last I checked, reporting tools painted the report in the window or on the screen and Silk saw it as one big graphic. Thus the only thing Silk can do with it is a bitmap comaprison, which will always fail if the report has a date/time stamp on it (mine do!) let alone the other normal issues with bitmap comparisons.
I'm hoping someone can save me some time - specifically in regard to Crystal Reports. Has anything changed? Is there any new way for ANY automation tool to see the actual data on a "report"? Any other ideas from anyone?
Why? My company has 2 basic products. One provides a logging capability to a database. The other reports off that database, generating reports we wrote using Java or using Crystal Reports. We have app #1's automation well on its way using Silk and I'm searching for an automation solution for the reporting tool.
Re: Silk and Crystal Reports
CR can save report as text file.
See CR window declaration. There should be a few buttons including save. Push it , choose format , then do the same with other report and compare it.
