Error message: Unable to start Internet Explorer 4

I am trying to run Silk om W98 machine using IE4, when I start my script, Silk starts IE4, then after a minute or so I get an error message attached:

    Testcase CleanMachine - 1 error
    [ ] *** DefaultBaseState is invoking Browser
[ ] *** Error: Unable to start Internet Explorer 4
    [ ] Occurred in AppError
    [ ] Called from Explorer.Invoke at extend\explorer.inc(412)
    [ ] Called from Browser.Invoke at browser.inc(193)
    [ ] Called from DefaultBaseState at defaults.inc(124)
    [ ] Called from DefaultTestCaseEnter at defaults.inc(298)
    [ ] Called from CleanMachine at workinprogress.t(698)
    [ ] *** Error: Window '[MainWin]$explorer4[1]' was not found

    [ ] Called from TestcaseExit at c:\StarTeam Working Folders\SoftLock Main Sources\QA\SilkTest\Softlock.inc(15763)
    [ ] Called from CleanMachine at workinprogress.t(698)

I looked in Agent extention details and IE4.vxx was loaded, I already tried reinstalling Silk, and Active Desktop on my machine is turned off.
If anyone has any suggestions your reply would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Error message: Unable to start Internet Explorer 4

Have you gotten the BaseState stuff to work on any other OS and browser, such as NT4 or IE5? That would be useful to know. If not then the problem may very well be in your setup of the recovery system.

This might be a silly question, but do you actually have IE4 installed on this machine?

And are the proper extensions defined for both the Agent (using the Extension Enabler tool) and within Silk? In BOTH places?

Re: Error message: Unable to start Internet Explorer 4

Our group started out testing with Silk 5.01 on Win95 and then tried Win98. We found that WinNT4 SP4 was way more stable, with Active Desktop not installed of course. With the release of Win2000 our reliability has gone up even more. We test with Navigator as well and ofen saw DR. Watson errors, which we turned off on one machine with not very little improvement. Win2000 is definately the way to go here unless you have OS dependancies like Client side scripts running on your app etc. Hope that helps.

Re: Error message: Unable to start Internet Explorer 4

    Hi,

Does your testcase run OK when the browser is invoked manually? If so, then you may need to check the registry settings for the IE4 command line. Ensure that the setting specified in the 'explorer.inc' for 'property sCmdLine' is correct.

    I hope that this helps.

    John.

Re: Error message: Unable to start Internet Explorer 4

I had this problem before. Include 'browser.inc' and 'explorer.inc' just to be sure. Unless you screwd around the registry or your IE crashed while updating the registry during install, I don't think your registry is at problem. Silk support IE v3 to v5.

Try this work around, even though it's ugly, it works for all windows OS, because 'iexplore' it's always in the path by default.

    Also

Check if silk can detect your browser.
