I am interested in hearing some of the network configurations people have setup for performacne testing. I am lobbying for some changes in my own configuration and would like to hear what woyuld be good and bad, maybe. I am constantly having to test on different subnets sometimes several per day. I was wondering if anyone has come up with any solutions. Right now I usually call up a network admin to help out. I have also heard the term VLAN thrown around and am not super clear what it will do for my but I do understand the concept. I thought this might be a topic of interest.
Re: Network configuration
I have 4 machines mounted in a rack, with their own switch. They are on their own workgroup.
Although a 3 layer switch would allow me to only reconfigure 1 gateway address, it's more econonical to just reconfigure that on the NIC's if I have to jump subnets. Usually Win2k lets me do that without a reboot, so, it's not a big time issue.
I wish there were an easier solution myself.
