    Performance Testing with Silk Performer

    Using Silk Performer--

For load testing we create virtual users. What is the correlation between
Virtual Users and Real time Users, like how many Virtual Users represent
    Real Users..

Re: Performance Testing with Silk Performer

There is no simple correlation between VUs and RUs.
    (Virtual users and real users)
The correlation will depend on how you have scripted, what wait times you have included etc. It could be 1:1 or it could be 1:100.

Sorry if this is vague, but that's the way it is.

    Regards,
    Bruce.

Re: Performance Testing with Silk Performer

Thanks Bruce for your reply. I got information from my friends and few Segue products experts with whom I was lucky to work.

Their answers I have pasted here:
    1.From Segue Product expert:
As far as the VU vs. real users - that depends. The best way to figure it
out (and it's different for every application) is to look at some metric
(say hits/sec or page views/minute) during peak hours from the production
environment. I forget if you guys were using webtrends or another tool to
monitor production, but it will also give you the number of real users. If
for instance, your production site has 80 users that generate 5 hits/sec,
then you can run a performer script with 10, 20, 30, 40, etc. virtual users
until you reach the same load of 5 hits/sec - sometimes the ratio is 1:1,
sometimes 1:10 , sometimes 1:100, it depends upon many, many factors.
    2.From another expert
You must first make categories of users. For example, for XYZ app you might
have a casual user who logs in, searches for an employee, and a project. You
might have a admin user who logs in, goes to the admin pages and modifies
tables and logs out. You might have a power user who logs in, enters an
employee, posts a project, creates skills and logs out...

So you would have functions :
    Employee Search
    Project Search
    Enter New Employee
    Enter New Project
    Modify Skills
    AdminTables
    Logout

Then you should create transactions which use groupings of each of the
functions and execute the transactions is various percent sequences. 10%
casual user, 30% admin, 40% poweruser etc.....

This would simulate a correct load onto the system. If you just execute 100
logins at once, this would make no sense.
