Setup of NT 4.0 Server Environment
I have been load testing an email system with SilkPerformer 3.0 and have a problem with NT sockets.
NT allows a maximum of 2000 sockets open simultaneously on each box but if I get a lot of tiemouts from POP or SMTP these sockets are soon used up and after prolonged timeouts, the whole box becomes unstable and cannot be contacted.
It also seems that if I have 2000 segue users on an NT machine that has 4 Gig of memory, the same thing happens which is why I think it is the operating system constraint.
Has anyone had a similar problem with this tool?
Does anyone know how to tune NT 4.0 Server for optimum load testing performance?
Re: Setup of NT 4.0 Server Environment
Set MaxUserPort to 0xFFFE
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters \MaxUserPort)
result: eliminates (decreases) the "Address already in use" errors
Set PagedPoolSize to 0x4000000
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory
result: increases the amount of free system page table entries (more virtual users available)
