Iam working on Macintosh platform and would be interested to know the different types of automation tools available to automate applications in Macintosh ...This would be of great help for me to try my hands on them
There are a variety of choices depending on the type of test automation you want to do. For unit testing of Cocoa applications there is OCUnit and at least one other tool (whose name doesn't come to mind right now). Some people also use AppleScript for various types of automation, and of course since the Mac is fundamentally a Unix system there are a lot of different command line and shell scripting languages that you could use to cobble something together.
Of course, for overall automation of a GUI application to perform functional, regression, system, integration, and performance tests, I don't think you'll find anything better than Eggplant.
The best tool for you will depend on exactly what it is that you want to do.
