Associating input types with input types
it's my understanding the you can create and input type, for example an excel requirements document and then associate or insert test cases with an entry on that input type. For example associate a test caser with req. 1.5.
I'm wondering is it possible to associate an input type with another input type. Specifically, I have an excel input type which contains a list of requirements. I also have another set of excel input types that list a number of high level test objectives for each requirement. I would like to associate each of these high level objective input types with the corresponding requirement entry within the requirements input type. However I have now idea how to do this or indeed if it can be done.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Re: Associating input types with input types
If you have two sets of Excel data, one which is high-level objectives and the other which is low-level requirements, you can create two test input sources within the Excel test input type.
You could associate Test Manager test cases with one (or more) from each test input source:
requirement A <-> test case 1
requirement B <-> test case 1
Chaining them, however, is beyond the scope of the test input adapter API and not possible:
requirement A <--> requirement B <--> test case.
To do the latter, you would need to use a requirement tool that's set up to handle multiple requirement types with traceability between them. Test Manager handles test inputs from Excel (which probably won't let you do what you want, assuming I understand your question correctly), IBM/Rational RequisitePro, Telelogic DOORS (using our integration), and IBM/Rational ClearQuest (again using our integration).
Hope that helps,
