    Registering a test input source

I am having problems with registering a Excel test input source.
The source is on a local machine, but connection to the source always fails with a "Connection Failure".
    Console adapter returned:
    General Datastore Error.

Using the UNC also doesn't help

Ahh - the infamous general datastore error. <shrug>

What version of Rational are you using? How is your project configured (Access?, SQL Anywhere? SQL Server?). Have you ever upgraded the datastore?

Version is the most important question for us to help you, the process has changed several times in the last few versions.

Re: Registering a test input source

I have solved the problem by installing Microsoft Excel to the system where TestManager is installed.

Unfortunately, the Rational Testing Products Installation Guide does not say that Microsoft Excel has to be installed on the system where TestManager is running. It is not listed in the Software Requirements

On the other hand, reported "General Datastore Error" message was so misleading that I had spent half day trying to figure out what wass wrong with my datastore. At the end I came to an idea that TestManager might require some Microsoft Excel files in order to recognize given Test Input.

I'm glad you found it. General Datastore Error means roughly the same thing as "something is wrong, but I don't know what it is"
