Can anyone tell me in simple english (so that i can unerstand) is that we need any programming knowledge to use rational robot for testing.........?if so what level of knowledge in which programming language ....?
It would be very useful to have a basic knowledge of structured programming techniques. E.g. procedures & functions, loops, variable types. Without this, you will end up either recording a whole lot of code which may not work reliably on playback & which is very hard to maintain when the test app changes. Like any development effort, re-usable code is the key.
Robot uses it's own language, SQABasic, which is based on Visual Basic.
If your AUT undergoes any changes or updates, point and click recording will not be reliable and you will spend most of your time re-recording scripts. Management will not be impressed with lack of progress or ability to build on your suite.
For a very cursory test point and click will work. However, if you require a reusable testing suite that is robust enough for reliable testing and validation, programming experience is a must.
