    Reading in a Command ID

Does anyone have an idea of how to read in a command ID into a variable. I've tried SQAGetProperty but that doesn't work.

    I.e. iResult = SQAGetProperty("Type=PushButton;Text=Next >","ID",iNextButtonID)

The problem I am trying to solve is an ever chaning GUID problem. I can use text label for the button but there are also Label fields I need to get access to that I can't figure out how to pull data from without knowing the ID for it.

    Thanks!
    Thanks,
    ~Charles

Re: Reading in a Command ID

You cannot use SQAGetProperty in order to get ID of button. I'm not sure if it is possible only with Robot functions. Try to search for some API function.
Do you need to find out ID only once or always in script runtime ?

Re: Reading in a Command ID

I have tried a few functions but of course none of them have worked out. Some API? I have no idea...I haven't worked with any external API's

Well here's the problem. Install Shield. Basically we are moving over the the MSI installer from InstallShield. In the past I used the ID's to work my way around the installer and verify labels state information. The MSI installer compiles new GUIDs every build. So to make a long answer short yeah I need these at run time...either that or another way to get what I need.
    Thanks,

And did you try to use ObjectIndex or something else instead ID in recMethod ?

That would be a big negitive. I started using Text but not ObjectIndex. The dialog Z order should be a reliable source I assume?

Re: Reading in a Command ID

    Marekf,

From what I can tell the only want to obtain the Index in by recording it. Inspector doesn't show it. Also PushButton Index is used after another recMethod.

So do you know if one recMethod fails if Robot will use a second if provided.

    Thanks

Re: Reading in a Command ID

Okay so I rearranged by reconginition order in order for Inspector and Robot to detect the INDEX. Normally for items like push button I start with ID, Text, Object Name, Index,

Once I did this things started to move right along. Although I feel uncomfortable using Indexs as a means to naviagting the UI it should be realitivly safe for the MSI installer.
