I am working on a project where we already have access to Robot. We have used the tool for capture/reply, with limited success, and have used datapools for feeding information into our applications.
We are now looking to use Robot's SQA Basic programming language, but only have very limted programming experience.
Can anyone recommend any Rational/other organisations, who offer training courses in SQA Basic, starting at beginners level ?
If possible, web based training would be prefered.
Re: SQA Basic
Also the sqabasic reference under help is very helpful.
Also look at a VB book very similar.
Re: SQA Basic
SQABasic, which is the language used in Robot, is very similar to Visual Basic 6. I would recommend getting a good book on VB6 to get some foundation in SQABasic programming. As for "Robot" specific commands, the important stuff is described and fully documented in the online help for Robot. I would recommend reading up on SQAGetProperty and Custom Verification Points. Be cognizant though that as you delved deeper into Robot, test automation will become a parallel project to "the" project that your team is working on. My point is that you cannot expect to create decent test automation by not going through the software development lifecycle -- you have to plan and design properly the test automation framework before implementing the test scripts.
