    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Subject: WINDOWS: SQAScriptCmdFailure [22.20.6.28]: SHARED datapool access is not available for dtapool <datapoolname>.
    Solution Id: 137613272
    Product: TestManager Client Platform: Intel x86
    Product Versions: 2002.05.20
    Client OS: Windows
    Area: Usage Client OS Versions:
    SubArea: How To Server Platform:
    Impact: Low Server OS:
    Technical Level: Intermediate Server OS Versions:
    Associated Defect Id: Date Published: 05-Feb-03
    Keywords: datapool, GUI, suite

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    SYMPTOM:

    When executing a GUI script in a suite and the script uses a datapool, the following error is encountered in the log event:

    SQAdatapoolopen:
    SQAScriptCmdFailure [22.20.6.28]: SHARED datapool access is not available for dtapool <datapoolname>.

    Message:
    [22.24.6.2]: rtgap.dll function GAPTaskExecute failed when executing GUI script in a suite.

    CAUSE:

    There are two ways to access datapool - shared or exclusive.
    The default access method, shared, if no method is specified explicitly.
    eg:
    dp_id = SQADatapoolOpen("repo_dp1")
    This will open the datapool using the shared method if the GUI script is executed in a suite.
    If a datatapool is accessed using the shared method from a GUI script in a suite, the above error will be encountered.

    RESOLUTION:

    There are 2 workaround for this error:
    1. Specify the execlusive method explicitly
    eg:
    dp_id = SQADatapoolOpen("repo_dp1", FALSE, SQA_DP_SEQUENTIAL, TRUE)
    The last parameter specifies whether exclusive method is TRUE of FALSE.

    2. If using shared mode if desired, create a dummy VU script to access the datapool.

    i). Create a VU script that contains a DATAPOOL_CONFIG section reflecting that in your GUI script.

    This can be done by recording a VU script (with the datapool option turned on) against your application, entering and submitting the same values as the GUI script. Next, in the VU script, delete all commands except for the DATAPOOL_CONFIG section. For example, the script will look something like this:

    #include <VU.h>
    {

    }

    DATAPOOL_CONFIG "repo_dp1" DP_SEQUENTIAL DP_SHARED DP_NOWRAP
    {
    INCLUDE, "p", "string", "PC";
    }

    2. Now make sure the datapool options (i.e. DP_SEQUENTIAL, DP_SHARED, DP_NOWRAP) correspond to those in the SQADatapoolOpen command in the GUI script.

    For example, if your GUI script has an SQADatapoolOpen line such as:

    dp_id = SQADatapoolOpen ("repo_dp1", FALSE, QA_DP_SEQUENTIAL, FALSE)

    then the DATAPOOL_CONFIG section in your VU script would be:

    DATAPOOL_CONFIG "ClassicsVUDP" DP_SEQUENTIAL DP_SHARED DP_NOWRAP

    3. In the TestManager suite, include a user group containing this VU script, and assign one user to it. The script will not perform any action, it just needs to reside in the suite.

    The datapool will now function properly in TestManager.
