    splitting an argument

    User DAVID MARSH (DAVID.MARSH@nice.com.nospam) posted:

Don't get many long arguments here, most usually end after a few posts with
    me getting called a wanker.

    Hows about

Result = MyFunction("Oh my god it's so big I just don't know how I'll fit it
    all in")

    being replaced by

sInputString = "Oh my god it's so big I just don't know how I'll fit it all
    in"
    Result = MyFunction(sInputString)

Usually the "answer" to most long arguements is "check the archives"

Yes & no, strictly speaking it does add more lines without doing much else,
but it can make it look clearer, and if there are several arguments it
    really helps keep things sweet.

    sVar1 =
    "Blah............................................. ..........................
    "
    sVar2 =
    "...............................blah.............. ..........................
    "
    sVar3 =
    "................................................. ......................blah
    !"

    Result = MyFunction(sVar1, sVar2, sVar3)

I usually code the "David Marsh" way....who cares about lines of code -
readability and ease of change is much more beneficial to me.

    Re: splitting an argument

    User DAVID MARSH (DAVID.MARSH@nice.com.nospam) posted:

I once read an article in which this guy said there was some really nice
software, and he said to someone he said it was a Mr. Gates, but I can't
    confirm that.

This software is really impressive, how much do you think it is worth"?

"The same as any other software", came the reply

"What do you mean by that"? asked the author somewhat puzzled.

    "25 cents per line".

Yep at the end of the day you may find that your efforts are boiled down to
how many lines of code you wrote, so someone who does something amazing in
one line that took someone else 100 lines to do is marked down as an under
    achiever.

You don't have to be good to look good, and you can look bad even if you are
    amazing.

    Sad isn't it?

    Dave
